About The Speaker
Prof Flin is the author of “Safety at the Sharp End” a concise guide to non-technical skills and “Incident Command: Tales from the Hot seat” analysing the role and response of the incident commander from real life Fire & Rescue incidents. Flin has a specialist interest in human factors and was actively involved in developing the non-technical skills assessment system for pilots (NOTECHS) recognised by the European Joint Aviation Authority. In more recent years, she has been involved in developing non-technical skills assessment tools for various healthcare professionals (Anaesthetists, Surgeons, Scrub nurses and Anaesthetic Department Practitioners). The Surgical tool (NOTSS) has been incorporated into postgraduate medical training by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. For HFC19, Professor Flin will be discussing non-technical skills training and assessment, specifically looking at how this can be used in the workplace to improve safety through training and professional development.
